Public Warning System
Big Bear City Fire Department has a public warning system that will alert the citizens of Big Bear City of possible danger such as a national emergency, weather related emergency, major disaster, or local disaster. When you hear the siren you should tune to your local radio or TV stations. Citizens should not call the Fire Department if activated for an emergency.

There are two speaker towers within the Big Bear City Fire Department service area.
1. Big Bear City Fire Department headquarters station on Big Bear Blvd. and Sawmill Canyon Drive.
2. Bear Valley Unified School District Maintenance Facility on Baldwin Lane in the Sugarloaf area.

There are two other speaker towers located in the City of Big Bear Lake, one at the sheriffs’ station, and the other located at City Hall.

On the first Saturday of each month, the sirens are tested with a short blast. There is no action required you hear the test. If there were a true emergency, the sirens would run through an entire lengthy cycle.

This alerting system is just another tool in communications in the event of an emergency.
