All mandated CUPA HAZMAT compliance is performed by the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

Listed below are matters handled by the Big Bear City Fire Department, at our headquarters, 301 W. Big Bear Blvd. Regular business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

· PLAN CHECKS: Applicants must submit three sets of complete plans for the installation of fire sprinklers, fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems and tenant improvements. Both fire sprinkler and fire alarm plans must also contain three sets of hydraulic calculations, respectively. Plans must contain all information required by the appropriate Code or NFPA Standard. Generally, the average plan check turn around time is about 5 days for most submittals. In some cases, plans are refered to an outside consulting service. If this is the case, plans could take about 3 weeks to process. The base fee for most plan checks is $75.00 plus any engineering consulting fee. The base fee includes rough and final inspections (if applicable). additional inspections or plan re-submittals may require additional fees. For more information concerning plan checks, call (909) 585-2362.

· FIRE SAFETY PERMITS: The department processes applications for welding/cutting, some fire ring permits, tents or canopies exceeding 400 square feet, certain types/quantities of hazardous materials storage and use. Permits are also required for underground tank installation and/or removal, religious burning, carnivals and fairs, pyrotechnic activities and assembly occupancies. Some permits require a fee. For more information about obtaining a permit, call (909) 585-2362

· FIRE INSPECTIONS: These include inspections for occupancy, state fire clearance, residential, fire sprinkler, fire alarm, fire suppression systems, General Fire Hazard , underground tank and other fire-related inspections. Some inspections require an approved set of plans and/or a permit before an inspection can be scheduled. In most cases 48 hours notice should be given. However, in some cases last-minute inspection requests may be accommodated. Annual commercial fire inspections are usually performed at the engine company level, or the self-inspection program in certain occupancy types. Inspections can be scheduled by calling (909) 909-585-2362.
