09/27/2011 What is the Big Bear Valley Ambulance Membership Program (AMP)?
This program is very similar to the LifeCare Program that has been offered for many years to residents within the Big Bear Valley. AMP is a service provided by the Big Bear City Fire Department that gives the residents of our valley added coverage, if ambulance transport is needed. AMP covers co-payments and/or partial coverage if insurance is not available to pay. In most cases, AMP provides coverage of inter-facility transfers. Your AMP membership, not only helps you, it also helps us. Funds generated by the AMP program help offset the cost of maintaining and purchasing new equipment.
What does it cost?
The cost of membership is only $65. The membership calendar year extends from November 1st through October 31st. The membership covers you, your dependants, unmarried children under 25, and other persons listed as dependants regularly living in your residence.
What is the Benefit?
AMP membership provides an 80% discount to those that have no insurance. Even if residents have insurance, full ambulance costs are seldom paid. Some bills are denied entirely. Private insurance companies often fail to pay certain fees citing “usual and customary limitations,” leaving the patient with unpaid bills. AMP accepts the insurance payment as full payment for services rendered. Your $65 fee entitles the subscriber to ambulance service as often as needed during the year. This protection makes sense when you consider the average cost of an ambulance ride is $1200-$1500 per use.
How Do I Sign-up?
A simple application and agreement can be found on our website, www.bigbearcityfire.org, or anyone can stop by the Big Bear City Fire Department and fill t out there. The cost is only $65 and we take cash, check, or credit card.
We hope you never need it, but if you do the Big Bear Valley Ambulance Membership Program can save you money. |
